Hard Rock Casino, formerly Horseshoe Casino, is a gaming facility located in downtown Cincinnati’s riverfront area along the Ohio River. The property reopened under its new moniker on December 8, 2022.

Cincinnati has been home to several casinos since their introduction in the early 2000s, with this Hard Rock Casino being one of them. History

Prior to its reincarnation under the new ownership group, Hard Rock International (HRI) announced that it would acquire the casino’s license from Vici for about $500 million in cash. The new acquisition deal also involved transferring control of a significant portion of Caesars Entertainment’s North American properties and assets to HRI.

Background on Ownership

To better understand the history behind this Hard Rock Casino, one must first acknowledge that it initially started under the name “Horseshoe Cincinnati” with Caesars as its primary owner. When faced with financial setbacks in 2020 due largely in part from COVID-19 pandemic disruptions and casino closures across North America, their parent company eventually filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

After this happened, Vici Properties took control of Horseshoe’s real estate assets while Eldorado Resorts absorbed several gaming properties formerly under Caesars’ ownership. Then in a major acquisition deal worth nearly $1 billion, Eldorado would then combine forces with MGM Reseach’s subsidiary to create what is today the world renowned hospitality brand – and one of its new namesakes; Hard Rock International.

Upon their new takeover agreement completed February 2022, Vici Properties was able to negotiate selling off control over this same property located near Cincinnati downtown for around half a billion in cold hard U.S. dollars – marking end goal completion milestone & further advancing larger strategic partnership objectives moving forward.
